Refunds, Cancellation, and Credits

  1. Payment is for the entire session. There are no refunds for individual missed weeks. 

  2. Prorated refunds for the remaining weeks in a session are available by formal written request with advance notice provided before a class starts. 

    Example 1: A student attending a session that takes place on Saturdays at 11 am requests a refund at 10:30 am the morning of Week 3’s class. The student is entitled to a prorated refund for the 4 classes they will not be attending, having provided notice before the start of Week 3’s class.

    Example 2: A student attending a course that takes place on Saturdays at 11 am requests a refund at 11:30 am the morning of Week 3’s class. The student is entitled to a prorated refund for the 3 remaining classes they will not be attending, having not provided notice before the start of Week 3’s class.

  3. A full refund or credit is available up until the start of the first class of a session. Students must make a formal written request before the start of the first class of the session. 

  4. Partial credits are not available. 

Make-up Classes

  1. There are currently no make-up classes for students who miss individual weeks.

Attendance and Participation

  1. Students who miss up to 4 total hours of instruction in a standard six-week session (including partial absences due to late arrival or early departure) are still eligible to move on to the next level of instruction and will be considered to have completed the class. However, they may be asked to repeat the class and/or sit out of the class grad show at their instructor’s or Montreal Improv’s discretion. 

  2. Students who miss more than 4 total hours of instruction in a standard six-week session (including partial absences due to late arrival or early departure) are not eligible to move on to the next level of instruction and will be asked to repeat. They will be considered to have not completed the class and will also not be eligible to participate in any associated class grad show. 

Student Progress / Repeating A Class

  1. Montreal Improv reserves the right to ask students to repeat a class if their progress is deemed insufficient, as our curriculum is structured to build upon itself from level to level. 

  2. Students repeating a level they have already completed (see Attendance and Participation above) may do so at a 50% discount.

    To receive the discount :

    A) The class to be redone must be the ONLY ITEM in your order. No exceptions.

    B) Apply the promo code REDO on the checkout page

    C) Checkout normally.

    2.1 There will be no retroactive application of the redo discount whether via refund or credit.

    2.2 The REDO promo may not be used in combination with any other discount nor in tandem with a bursary.

    2.3 Student use of the discount is monitored and verified against student records. Misuse of the promo code will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action including but not limited to immediate unenrollment from classes.


Anti-Harassment and Non-Discrimination Policies

OVERVIEW

Montreal Improv is committed to providing classes, performances, and other events and services with equal safety, respect, and dignity for all.

Montreal Improv is a private organization that reserves the right to refuse access or service to any person who a) endangers, b) disrespects, or c) causes harm to any guest, patron, student, staff member, independent contractor, or any other individual who is present for a workshop or event.

Any individual may report an instance of abuse, discrimination, or harassment using our anonymous reporting form found here.


OBJECTIVES

In addition to being violations of the law, harassment and discrimination have no place in the classroom, on stage or in any other space where Montreal Improv conducts its business. This document outlines the standards and policies that must be observed by every Montreal Improv guest, patron, student, staff member or independent contractor.


DEFINITIONS

Discriminatory harassment is a form of behaviour characterized by repeated and unsolicited words, actions or gestures of a vexatious or contemptuous nature, that could either undermine the dignity or the physical or psychological integrity of the individual or lead to unfavorable working conditions or dismis-sal, based on any of the grounds enumerated in article 10 of the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.

Discriminatory harassment may be manifested in actions, words, abuse, isolation, hurtful omissions, contemptuous attitues, dissuastion from seeking opportunities and other forms of aggression.

This policy prohibits discrimination or harassment based on the following grounds:

  • Age

  • Race

  • Ancestry

  • Sex

  • Creed (religion)

  • Place of origin

  • Ethnic origin

  • Citizenship

  • Colour

  • Gender expression

  • Gender identity

  • Disability (including mental, physical, developmental or learning disabilities)

  • Marital status

  • Sexual orientation

  • Gender identity

  • Gender expression

  • Record of offences

  • Association or relationship with a person identified by one of the above grounds

Sexual harassment is a form of behaviour characterized by repeated and unsollicited sexually connotative acts or gestures that could undermine the dignity or the physical or psychological integrity of the individual or lead to unfavorable conditions to work, learn or perform.

Behaviour that constitutes sexual harassment includes unsolicited demands for sexual favours; touching; displays of degrading or pornographic material; remarks, insults, jokes, comments of a sexual nature; leering or inappropriate staring; promises based on the granting of sexual favours; inintimidation, threats, reprisals, refusals to grant employment or promotion, dismissals and other types of harm inflicted for the refusal of sexual favours.

In general, discriminatory harassment and sexual harassment involve repeated acts. However, a single serious act that has negative consequences may constitute harassment.


ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

All persons involved with Montreal Improv are expected and required to refrain from any form or harassment or discrimination, and cooperate fully with any investigations of a harassment or discrimination complaint.

Montreal Improv staff, contractors and associates (such as show producers or guests) are responsible for maintaining an environment that is equitable and free of harassment, violence, racism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, classism and any other forms of oppression and discrimination.


CHARTER OF RIGHTS

This policy is based on the provisions of the Charter of human rights and freedoms, which stipulates as follows:

Section 10

Every person has a right to full and equal recognition and exercise of his human rights and freedoms, without distinction, exclusion or preference based on race, colour, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, civil status, age except as provided by law, religion, political convictions, language, ethnic or national origin, social condition, a handicap or the use of any means to palliate a handicap.

Discrimination exists where such a distinction, exclusion or preference has the effect of nullifying or impairing such right.

Section 10.1

No one may harass a person on the basis of any ground mentioned in section 10.

Section 1

Every human being has a right to life, and to personal security, inviolability and freedom. He also possesses juridical personality.

Section 4

Every person has a right to the safeguard of his dignity, honour and reputation.

Section 5

Every person has a right to respect for his private life.

Section 16

No one may practise discrimination in respect of the hiring, apprenticeship, duration of the probationary period, vocational training, promotion, transfer, displacement, laying-off, suspension, dismissal or conditions of employment of a person or in the establishment of categories or classes of employment.

Every person who works has a right, in accordance with the law, to fair and reasonable conditions of employment which have proper regard for his health, safety and physical well-being.
