Acting For Improvisers
This class is for anyone who is interested in deepening their stage presence.
The philosophy of Acting for Improvisers lies in becoming more acquainted with our greatest performance tool; ourselves. Exercises in vulnerability, opportunities to be intimately seen and heard by others, will allow us to encounter ourselves, the whole, vulnerable, beautiful beings behind the performers.
This class is equal parts performance and reflection. Physical, vocal, and interconnective exercises will help us to identify personal and performance boundaries, while writing prompts and group discussions will allow us to better understand the boundaries we have encountered, and gently massage away their resistance. The specific tools that we will explore are diaphragmatic breath, somatic body awareness, vocal range and resonance, and connection with scene partners: essential foundations for aliveness in any kind of performance. We will practice applying these foundations using theatrical texts and scripted characters.
Prerequisite: Level 4 improv or equivalent
